Accurate wind tunnel models were incredibly important for achieving success at the Circuit de La Sarthe with Porsche creating several for their 956/962 programme. This model was created during Kremer’s development of the K8, a car which would feature heavily in sportscar racing on both sides of the Atlantic.

The K8’s debut was at the 1994 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but most importantly it marked the return of the Gulf brand to motorsport after 19 years. Armed with many 962 parts and advance aerodynamics, a K8 was entered by Gulf Oil Racing with Derek Bell, Jürgen Lässig and Robin Donovan sharing driving duties. Bell qualified on 2nd and led the beginning of the race before small problems eventually the entry back to 6th, but 3rd in class, at the chequered flag.

After development duties were over, this wind tunnel model was used for marketing purposes by being painted in the famous blue and orange colours. It was then place in the Gulf UK headquarters.

Since then, it has been owned by a member of the marketing agency for Gulf UK so it is offered with perfect provenance. This historic 1:5 scale model would be perfect for the desk of any endurance racing fan.
