Similar to the CLK 63 AMG Black Series before it, the C 63 AMG Black Series was designed to unleash the full fury of AMG’s engineers to create the most radical, road-going iteration of the C-Class coupé. The company’s faithful had quickly fallen for the lightened, widened, and lowered CLK 63 AMG Black Series, and it was clear that it would require a successor once production came to an end. The C 63 Black Series stepped up the intensity in all regards and proved not only to be competent on the road, but also an outright blast on the track. Mercedes-Benz and AMG only intended to build 650 examples of their newest Black Series model, but strong demand pushed production to 800 examples.

Looking at the technical specifications of the C 63 AMG Black Series, it is easy to see why they were so sought after. Retaining the same 6.2-litre, naturally aspirated V-8 as found in the standard C 63 AMG, the Black Series borrowed a number of components from the 6.2-litre engine found in the SLS AMG, including a lighter crankshaft, as well as forged pistons and correcting rods. It produces 510 brake horsepower, 59 more than the standard C 63, and is just 53 shy of the SLS AMG. With the engine redlining at 7,200 rpm, a sprint from 0–60 mph takes just 3.7 seconds, and the car will reach a top speed of 186 mph if the driver refuses to slow down.

This C 63 AMG Black Series was produced at Mercedes-Benz’s factory in Bremen, Germany, and shipped out on 2 October 2012, according to its data card, a copy of which accompanies the sale. Finished in Fire Opal Red with a black racing stripe on the driver’s side and a black leather and Alcantara interior, it was delivered new to its current Italian collector, a connoisseur of Mercedes-Benz and AMG products. Options include a reversing camera, 19-inch wheels, the AMG exterior carbon trim package, heated front seats, and piano lacquer interior trim, as well as rear seats. Furthermore, a matte black finish was chosen for those parts that were normally chromed, giving the car an ultra-aggressive look and demeanour.

The C63 AMG Black Series is a perfect example of the range of the abilities of AMG’s own engineers. Starting with the standard C-Class sedan, they were able to craft a track-day ready monster, one capable of keeping up with today’s crop of supercars, and even graced engine components from the range-topping SLS AMG. Having travelled only 2,533 kilometres from new, this C63 AMG Black Series remains in flawless condition both inside and out. Following a recent service, it remains ready for the road, track, or both, should its next owner feel the need.
