Lee Iacocca’s legendary career was defined by groundbreaking achievements, chief among them the creation of America's definitive pony car, creating a market segment that is still celebrated today. He rightfully earned the title "Father of the Mustang." Given his monumental impact on global car culture, it was only fitting that in 2009, 45 years after changing the automotive landscape forever, he was honored with his very own hand-crafted, special-edition Mustang.

Debuting on Father’s Day 2009, the Ford Mustang Iacocca Edition represented a bold departure from the traditional S197 Mustang, merging classic muscle with coachbuilt luxury. The production run was limited to 45 units, distributed solely by the legendary Galpin Ford in Los Angeles. All were fastback coupes with black interiors, with 41 finished in Iacocca Silver, three in Black, and just one example finished in Red.

The striking shape was penned by designer Michael Leone and brought to life through the old-world craftsmanship of Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters. Visually independent from the factory S197 platform, its hallmark feature is a dramatic, sweeping fastback profile that slopes cleanly into a re-engineered rear decklid. The car’s aggressive, nose-down stance is framed by a custom front valance with deeply pocketed headlights and a functional "power bulge" hood. Bespoke design accents further its exclusivity, featuring custom Iacocca crests, "I" trunk branding, painted side mirrors, integrated quad exhaust tips, and 20-inch chrome wheels. Powering the Iacocca Edition is a 4.6-liter V-8 engine backed by a five-speed manual transmission. A Ford Racing handling package and upgraded suspension complete the package, guaranteeing an exhilarating drive.

Inside, the factory interior is replaced with bespoke diamond-patterned luxury leather seats, front and rear. The driver is greeted by a “I” branded leather steering wheel and aluminum Iacocca branded sill plates. While the premium Shaker 500 sound system provides modern road-trip comfort, the cabin’s definitive highlight is an authenticated, dash-mounted Iacocca signature build plaque noting its place in the 45-car build run.

Rarity is the ultimate currency for collectors, and this sole Red Iacocca Edition is a true one-of-one masterpiece. Having covered just 178.8 miles, it has remained preserved with the original distributor, among Galpin Ford’s impressive private collection. Ironically, days after the model's release, Lee Iacocca publicly stated that all cars would be silver, adding, “No red ones. I would like a candy apple red one myself...”

Remarkably, a lone example did get built. Whether made to satisfy Mr. Iacocca's personal wish or simply to defy the rules, this is that one-of-one Red car, enhancing the rarity and appeal of what is an already sought-after hand-crafted Mustang.
