The 2009 Ford Mustang Iacocca Edition is best described as a masterwork of modern American muscle. Built in celebration of 45 years of the iconic pony car and honoring the "Father of the Mustang" himself, fittingly just 45 examples were produced: 41 in Iacocca Silver, three in Black, and one in Red. All were sold exclusively through Galpin Ford in Los Angeles, California.
Designed by Michael Leone, these cars were meticulously hand-crafted by the renowned Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters in close collaboration with Lee Iacocca, who designed the Iacocca crest used throughout the car. Visually, the Iacocca edition stands apart from a standard S197 Mustang with a redesigned front fascia with recessed headlights, a more aggressive “power bulge” hood, and a noticeably sleeker fastback silhouette that flows neatly into the trunk. The back of the car features a revised rear valance with an integrated quad-tip exhaust. Custom Iacocca hood emblems, trunk cap “I” badging, color-matched sideview mirrors, and stunning Iacocca Design 20-inch chrome wheels complete the exterior. Viewed in profile, the car’s sleek, raked stance further accentuates its aggressive, coachbuilt proportions.
Underneath the sculpted hood sits a powerful 4.6-liter V-8 engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Performance is further elevated by a Ford Racing handling package and an upgraded suspension system.
On the interior, the customization continues with luxurious Iacocca diamond-design leather seats, front and rear. The driver is greeted with an Iacocca-badged, leather-wrapped steering wheel, while premium touches like aluminum door sill plates further enhance the Mustang. The Mustang’s Shaker 500 audio system is retained and just above it completing the interior is an Iacocca signature dash plaque with serial number.
Upon its release, a famous commercial captured the essence of this limited-production model, featuring an Iacocca Silver example, like the one offered here, carving through Southern California canyons and commanding attention across downtown LA. The iconic drive culminated on the Pacific Coast Highway, where the car pulled over and the window rolled down to reveal none other than Lee Iacocca himself behind the wheel. Set to Frank Sinatra’s "Fly Me to the Moon," the music provided a fittingly high-flying backdrop for a car honoring an automotive icon.
Retained by Galpin from new and now offered from The Boeckmann Collection showing a mere 68.5 miles at cataloguing, serial number 35 stands is a time capsule example of this coachbuilt tribute to one of the industry’s most notable figures.
