The 290 was introduced in 1933, adding yet another inline six-cylinder-powered automobile to the Mercedes-Benz line up. Like other Mercedes-Benz models of the time, the 290 was available either with a long- or short-wheelbase chassis and in a variety of body styles, including convertibles, saloons, roadsters, and even a Pullman limousine. By the time production moved to the 320, just under 3,500 short-wheelbase units had been produced.

This 290 Cabriolet D is excellent overall in form and appearance, as it benefits from recent restoration work that has left it in wonderful cosmetic condition. First delivered though the Frankfurt branch of Daimler-Benz in February of 1934, this 290 Cabriolet D is currently finished in dark blue, with a crisp red leather interior and an excellent black cloth top. The leather and wood in the interior have received a recent restoration and are in fantastic condition, with very little wear present. The paint is in excellent condition, and the blue, which is set off by restrained chrome details, accentuates the lines of the cabriolet body quite nicely. The car is equipped with dual side-mounted spare tyres, and all of wheels are painted to match the body and have nicely polished chrome hubcaps. This would make a pleasant weekend cruiser that could easily accommodate a family of four in style.
