When the new-for-1963 Sting Ray was introduced, it is unlikely that its creators understood the impact it would make on the automotive world. Long considered a modern classic, the Corvette Sting Ray was an unqualified success, outselling the 1962 models by 48 percent. Meanwhile, a second shift was added to the St. Louis assembly plant to meet the growing demand.

The 1965 model year marked the third year of the second generation (C2) Corvette. The “shark gills” behind the front wheels were now fully functional, helping vent the engine compartment and aid cooling. This year four-wheel disc brakes became standard equipment, which allowed for quick and reliable stopping power.

Offered here is a stunning 1965 Corvette that has been frame-on restored. The sleek fiberglass body is finished in Ermine White. The top is presented in black and the interior is finished in black with bucket seats. The powerplant is a 327-cid, 300-hp V-8 backed by a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes full instrumentation, AM/FM radio, electric clock, original teakwood steering wheel, power antenna and desirable knock-off alloy wheels. The radio is a replacement, but the original unit is included in the transaction; power steering has also been added by the current owner.

The frame-on restoration on this car was completed in 2004, and the Corvette has been immaculately maintained since. Everything is reported to work per factory specifications; the undercarriage is also nicely detailed and this stunning head turner “drives and looks like a new car.” The car is accompanied by its Protect-O-Plate and the drivetrain is reported as correct to this car.

The Corvette is a different kind of car, a true sports car made in an America. It was designed for spirited driving, while being able to handle the harshness of the road. This Corvette will make a great addition to any classic car collection.
