Of all of the sports cars that were available in period, with a long-established record of excellence and development; the 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III V-12 Roadster was considered to be “The Ultimate Cat.”
The V-12 engine was considered to be a prime selling point and this 5,343-cc unit did not disappoint. It was able to from zero to fifty with ease, or accelerate out of a gaggle of cars and well into the clear. It was even marketed as then being docile enough and “behaves in downtown traffic at quitting time before a holiday weekend.” In a word, the Jaguar was considered as “smooth.” It had amazing quickness that was noted as having “eerie smoothness – like an electric motor or an express elevator.” Happily, it was power planned for everyday driving versus that on a race track.
From an engineering standpoint, this was attained by having the Jaguar in perfect balance. Since it is a Jaguar, it features independent front and rear suspension with anti-dive control, power assisted rack-and-pinion steering, power assisted disc brakes on all four corners and the four-speed manual (as seen in this car) was standard equipment.
This particular example is presented in yellow with a black interior. The interior has recently been reupholstered and the soft-top is also new. The car is reported as being driven sparingly and it is further outfitted with air conditioning, wire wheels and a radio. To top it off, the Jaguar has been recently serviced and is ready for its next appreciative driver.
