When this car was built, the Mercedes-Benz felt they should design the car around the passenger area. It was the “from-the-inside-out” way of thinking about design that gave the Mercedes-Benz two special advantages: interiors that are luxurious and welcoming to all, with safety considerations not found in most any other car of the period. The second is charm to spare throughout – demonstrating just a hint of haughtiness that you drive the car with the famous three-pointed star.

The lovely example being offered is one of only 1,390 such vehicles produced between 1968 and 1970. Indications are reported to show that less than half of those cars are serviceable and accounted for today. This era of Mercedes-Benz cabriolet represents an elegant and timeless design; yet it is renowned as a machine that can, and should still be exercised and driven with enjoyment.

Showing that it has been driven sparingly, the 280SE is finished in Moss Green over Bamboo leather, with a matching top boot. This outstanding color combination is complemented by an Ivory white convertible top. This is further stated to be a U.S. specification vehicle and it also features power steering, power brakes, power windows, clock, Becker Grand Prix radio and power antenna. All of the instruments are registered in English capacities, and a very uncommon feature is seen with the Ivory colored steering wheel.

Another exclusive feature of this car is that while it was constructed as a U.S. specification vehicle, it was delivered new to the original owner in Tehran, Iran. Delivery and production data cards are included in a file folder that transfers with the sale of the car. Supporting documents include an extensive service history along with the original books, manual and plastic binder.

This Mercedes-Benz 280SE Cabriolet is reported to run and drive “wonderfully.” The 2.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine produces 160 horsepower and 177 foot pounds of torque which results in smooth, powerful performance. This luxurious, grand touring nature of the cabriolet is enhanced by the presence of the original four-speed manual transmission.

This 280SE cabriolet is stated to be an original car that has had limited paint work over the years. The interior is original and reflects the care that it has received over the years. This car has not been restored and it doesn’t need to be. It is reported to be available for driving and enjoyment as original; or the next custodian can outline a restoration plan should they desire such a solid platform to restore to like-new standards.
