One of America’s most acclaimed musclecar icons, the Chevrolet Chevelle, was produced with only minor styling changes, including new taillamps for the 1969 model year. With another great year of sales, the Chevelle was on the upswing and the SS 396 became an option package on all Chevelles and the SS 396 as a series was dropped and the 396 engine was relegated to being part of the RPO Z25, SS 396 option. The 1969 model year is also the only year to offer any SS Equipment option on anything other than the V-8 Malibu sport coupe, convertible and El Camino. For 1969 only, the Z25 option could be ordered on the V-8 300 Deluxe series two-door coupe (13427- like this rare car) and two-door sport coupe (13437).

The base 396-cid engine was the (L35) 325-hp engine with two optional 396 engines, the L34 350-hp version and a L78 375-hp version; like seen in this fine machine. Contrary to popular belief bucket seats, gauges, and four-speeds were not standard equipment. A front bench seat, no gauges (except speedometer and fuel gauge), and a three-speed heavy-duty floor-shifted transmission were standard with the RPO Z25 SS 396 option.

Exceptional in its presentation, this rare “post” two-door coupe has the RPO Z25 SS 396 option and is finished in Monaco Orange with a rare cloth bench seat in its black interior. The Chevelle is quick and sounds fantastic with the uncommon L78 aluminum head, 375 horsepower V-8 powerplant that is matched to a M22 Hurst floor-shift manual four-speed transmission. The rear end has a 12-bolt 4.10:1 rear end. The SS package includes the SS factory wheels and proper SS badging; Goodyear Polyglas tires, power steering, power brakes and AM radio complete the platform. It is believed that there are less than 20 of this model of car with the coveted 375 L78 engine.

The undercarriage, trunk (with spare) and engine compartment are also meticulous in appearance and factory-type markings and tags are seen. Originally built at the Baltimore, Maryland plant, this beautifully restored Chevelle has its Certificate of Authenticity from The 1969 Chevelle 300 Deluxe Post Coupe SS Registry that was issued in April, 2007. In 2008, this Chevelle SS 300 Deluxe received a Concours Gold Spinner Award at the Chevy Vette Fest 27th Spring Edition in Rosemont, Illinois further strengthening the case for how nice this car is.
