For 1982, three prototype GT Enduro V-8 cars were produced. Two cars were finished in red and one was finished in Dark Blue. They were marketed as a modified street car that were sculpted after IMSA racing Mustangs that were competing in major road race endurance races. To promote these cars, they were shown nationwide in the Firestone “Motorsports Caravan” display tour in the 1980s.

This Dark Blue Mustang was featured in an article in “Fabulous Mustang” in 1982. In the same year on February 22, it was the cover car on Autoweek magazine. Furthermore, thousands of postcards and posters were distributed featuring this car as part of the “Boss is Back” campaign.

This immaculate Mustang is showing just over 14,000 original miles, and is equipped with a 302-cid V-8 engine that is fully equipped with TRW forged pistons, competition steel connecting rods and a TRW roller timing set. The valve train has been fitted with full-roller rocker arms and a Crane hydraulic CompuCam camshaft. Helping with the flow of exhaust are full length headers with dual exhaust and ANSA dual resonator tips. The entire engine was balanced and blueprinted by AMS in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. The transmission is a BorgWarner five-speed manual transmission equipped with a Ford SVO shifter. Putting power to the pavement is a Ford Motorsports limited-slip rear axle that has a 3.73:1 gear ratio and a chrome housing cover.

The chassis is sporting four-wheel power disc brakes, special control arms, power steering, chassis stiffening kit; Koni shocks, springs and sway bars. The wheels are BBS three-piece forged racing wheels wrapped in blackwall tires.

The aggressive Dark Blue exterior is highlighted with a McLaren-style one-piece fiberglass front end piece, headlight covers, extractor hood, steel rear spoiler and wide front fenders and wide rear quarter panels. The interior is tailored with a four-point rollbar, Ghia interior trim package, Recaro LS seats with matching rear passenger seats, Simpson racing harnesses, Stewart Warner “Stage III” instrumentation, sunroof, Blaupunkt 200-watt stereo system and a Racemark leather steering wheel.

This Fox Body Mustang is no ordinary Mustang; the history, race-bread power and full documentation provide the next owner with a fabulous one-of-a-kind Fox Body Mustang.
