First launched in January 1933, 10th Series Packards featured numerous design changes and technological improvements over previous offerings, including a new V-shaped front grill, skirted fenders—uniform across the entire range—bullet headlights, and standard 17-inch wire wheels. Added insulation improved passenger comfort, while closed models featured a more raked front windscreen and tilting door windows, which were dropped one year later. The dashboard was also updated with aircraft-inspired touches.

The Model 1004 Packard was powered by a 385-cubic-inch straight eight-cylinder engine rated at 145 horsepower. Thirteen different body styles were available on a newly redesigned, 142-inch wheelbase chassis that sat lower and was fitted with a cross brace, enabling a sleeker appearance. It also featured a redesigned brake system that could be adjusted from the dashboard. Prices for the Model 1004 ranged from the $2,780 Coupe to the $3,590 Convertible Sedan.

The stunning Packard Blue Convertible Coupe offered here, of which 788 were produced, cost $2,870 when new. A truly remarkable machine, it benefits from a high-quality restoration completed in 1997 by Classic Coachworks of Blenheim, Ontario and still presents beautifully. Underlining the quality of the work, the car received a 2011 National First Prize from the Antique Automobile Club of America and also achieved both First Place Senior and Senior Premier Status with the Classic Car Club of America. The car’s beautiful Parchment leather upholstery is particularly inviting thanks to a lovely patina.

Thoroughly enjoyed by its current owner and family, this Packard Super Eight was often shown locally, routinely garnering other awards, and was driven to favorite restaurants for anniversaries, birthdays, and special occasions. A favorite of the consignor’s wife, it was also enjoyed at weddings and was trailered to the 10,000 Lakes Concours d’Elegance in Excelsior, Minnesota, where it is said to have won yet more awards.

A car fit for the finest collections, this Convertible Coupe remains in beautiful condition and is equipped with desirable accessories, including Trippe lights, a metal trunk with fitted luggage, and a 3.58:1 rear-axle gear for comfortable high-speed cruising. Sure to turn heads wherever it goes, this exceptional CCCA Full Classic would make an ideal partner at shows and CARavans, or any one of numerous prestigious classic car events.
