  • “Big Harley” of great repute and unparalleled comfort
  • Among the period’s most sought-after and highly developed American touring models
  • Powered by a 1,200-cc, overhead-valve, Shovelhead V-twin engine
  • Customized with attention-grabbing paintjob, forged billet wheels, and extensive chrome-trimmed accessories

Harley-Davidson’s FLH 1200 Electra Glide is one of the true standout models from the company’s long succession of touring-focused Glide models. The FL lineage dates from 1941, when it began as a continuation of the earlier EL, with which it shared a frame but used a 74-cubic-inch development of the EL’s Knucklehead V-twin, overhead-valve engine. A new Panhead engine was introduced in 1948. The next year, the FL received a hydraulically damped fork, and with it the name Hydra Glide.

For 1961, it got a new frame with swing-arm rear suspension and the name Duo Glide. Finally, in 1965, with the addition of an electric starter, the Duo Glide became Electra Glide, while the following year the Panhead engine was phased out in favor of a more powerful 1,200-cubic-centimeter Shovelhead unit. By 1970, the FLH 1200 Electra Guide had reached a point of notable refinement, with publications like Cycle Guide calling it “…the one, the only, the undisputed king of two-wheel touring…unmistakable in any crowd.”

This thoroughly customized 1973 Electra Glide is offered today from nearly three decades of ownership within a private collection. Already a beacon of attention—on account of the model’s great renown and exceptional size—the consignor nonetheless lavished this FLH 1200 with copious chrome-plated accessories, forged billet components, and a stunning, custom, blue-flame paintjob. The model’s standard front cowl and tall, factory-issued windscreen have been tastefully substituted for a bare, chromed-billet headlamp.

A true chrome-king of the road dripping with style and well-regarded for its supreme comfort and road-holding abilities, this Harley-Davidson 1200 FLH Electra Glide would be a tremendous and unique prize for any enthusiast looking to experience the timeless allure of this famous touring model.
