  • First year for the 442 as a standalone model
  • Equipped with desirable four-speed manual transmission
  • Finished in factory Nocturne Blue exterior over Blue interior
  • Documented by invoices detailing cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment

Initially offered as a performance-oriented option package for the Oldsmobile Cutlass and F-85, the 442 featured a four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual transmission, and twin exit exhausts, as the name implies. In 1968, a standalone model wore the nameplate and could be had in Sport Coupe, Holiday Coupe, Convertible, and Station Wagon body styles. In contrast to the more traditional sedan designs seen in previous model years, the coupes featured distinctive, fastback rooflines for a much sportier image. Under the hood, 400 or 455 cubic-inch V-8 engines were fitted in various states of tune and provided as much as 390 horsepower in Hurst/Olds specification.

The example on offer was completed in March 1968 at General Motor’s Linden New Jersey plant and came finished with Nocturne Blue exterior paint over a blue interior. Most importantly, the powerful V-8 engine is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. While little is known about the early history of this Oldsmobile, the car has been under the care of its Canadian owner since at least 2006. Invoices on file dating back to this time list a plethora of parts purchased for mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment.

An iconic muscle car, this Oldsmobile 442 is perfect for top-down summer cruising. With four on the floor and a V-8 under the hood, it will certainly provide an exciting driving experience to boot.
