The handsome top-of-the-line Custom Royal Lancer offered here has been part of the late Jim Miller’s collection for the last 10 years. Previously, it was owned by his longtime friend and fellow renowned collector Charles Cawley. Typical of Mr. Miller’s automobiles, it is a wonderful original and unrestored car, which is still finished in most of its original Ebony and Sunshine factory lacquer, with a superb original interior that is still as attractive as the day it was installed. Not just original, it is also a very comfortable place to be, with the options of push-button PowerFlite automatic transmission, power steering and brakes, and an AM radio. All of the panels close beautifully, and the chrome and stainless trim throughout is in fine condition.

Under the hood is attractively unrestored and appropriately correct, with proper hoses and clamps, and it benefits from a recent detailing. The 295-brake horsepower V-8 is the standard engine for this model but produces abundant power, exhaling through the dual exhaust. The original wheels have been shod in proper bias-ply whitewall tires.

Chrysler products of the late 1950s are renowned for their flamboyant beauty and numerous futuristic styling features but not so much for how well they weathered the passing years. To find one that is solid, wonderfully original, and well preserved, as well as one that in no way needs anything other than continued conscientious maintenance, is a wonderful and rare occasion. This car belongs in the stable of any MoPar collector who appreciates a truly original “chrome king.”
