  • One of the rarest post-war pickup trucks
  • Wonderful period-correct colors
  • A hard-to-find component of any Hudson collection

102 bhp, 212 cu. in. L-head inline six-cylinder engine, three-speed column-shifted manual transmission, independent coil-spring front suspension, semi-elliptical leaf-spring rear suspension, and Bendix four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 128 in.

It is worth noting that even many Hudson enthusiasts forget that the company once produced a pickup truck, or that it was even one of the first post-war trucks to be based upon passenger car engineering and to offer many of the same comforts to its passengers. Indeed, the motivation for the 1946 model was Hudson’s long-stroke side-valve Super Six engine with a chrome alloy cylinder block, which was mated to a column-shifted three-speed transmission with the company’s famous cork-insert, oil-immersed clutch. While the cab and front-end sheet metal of the body were similar to Hudson cars, the cargo box was fully custom and incredibly cavernous, with 48 cubic feet of volume and the ability to haul up to a ¾-ton of payload.

Hudson trucks accounted for about three percent of the 95,000 vehicles built by the company in 1946, with only 3,374 sold.

The handsome Series 58 offered here was cosmetically restored in Black and Pine Green, with a natural wood finish in the truck bed. The interior was fitted with burgundy upholstery and a red steering wheel, which stands out against the body-colored dashboard. The steel wheels were finished in Pine Green and brightened by chrome beauty rings, which today shine as nicely as the rest of the car’s chrome. The engine bay appears to have been finished in correct colors as well, and although it shows signs of use since the completion of the restoration, it remains very presentable overall.

This truck is one of the rarest of post-war Hudsons, and it marks an excellent opportunity for any collector to purchase a pickup that he or she will rarely see coming!
