Sergio Scaglietti was with Enzo Ferrari from the company's beginnings. The creator of some of the most beautiful cars to emerge from Maranello, Scaglietti’s technique was compared to that of a sculptor. During the 2004 Detroit Auto Show, Ferrari’s then-president Luca di Montezemelo dedicated this handsomely understated, all-aluminum model to the memory of the great designer.

The 612 Scaglietti derives motivation from an aluminum 5.75-liter V-12 shared with the contemporaneous 575M Maranello and good for nearly 540 horsepower. Ferrari engineers ingeniously determined that, by mounting this engine midship with a long hood and cab-rearward layout, the weight distribution figures would be comparable to those of a rear-midengined car. The result is an undoubtedly high-performance grand tourer which effortlessly combines performance, comfort, and class in a platform that offers comfortable seating for four occupants.

Exuding character and dynamic ability, the 612 Scaglietti has the ability to attain a top speed of 195 miles per hour. Classic Pininfarina styling pays homage to the Ferraris of the 1960s with a wide front grill, sweeping body curves, and clean lines. The coves on the side panels are reminiscent of the famous Scaglietti 375MM built for Roberto Rossellini and Ingrid Bergman.

This Rosso Corsa over tan example was delivered new to Ferrari of Long Island (New York) in late May 2006 and specified with the desirable “HGTS” equipment package, which provides an exclusive sports suspension, exhaust system, and upgraded TCU for its semi-automatic transaxle. Additional factory specifications which further enhance this 612’s desirability include a pair of optional Scuderia fender shields, 19-inch ball-polished modular alloy wheels, red brake calipers, and full Daytona-style seat upholstery for front and rear occupants.

This 612 appears to have remained with its original New York owner until July 2009, then indicating approximately 5,000 miles. It then passed to another local enthusiast who kept this exhilarating 2+2 for another nine years. By June 2018, this car showed 10,850 miles and was purchased by a fastidious Georgia resident who briefly enjoyed it prior to selling this 612 Scaglietti onward to the previous owner.

Presented today showing fewer than 17,000 miles since new, this handsomely specified “HGTS” 612 Scaglietti is truly a wonderful grand tourer in all regards. It offers the perfect blend of practicality and performance in a package that harkens back to Ferrari’s tradition of classic, understated styling.
