Grand touring has been a part of Ferrari’s mission since day one, but few cars bearing Maranello’s prancing horse have had the breadth of capabilities found in the F12. When it replaced the 599 at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the F12 brought with it an evolution of the F140 V-12 engine teamed to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Scaglietti and Ferrari collaborated on the car’s aluminum space-frame chassis that managed to weigh less than the 599 while being 20-percent more rigid.

The F12 was far more than the sum of its parts. It stood in marked contrast to the LaFerrari hypercar that bowed about a year later as an homage to the brand’s decades of naturally aspirated powertrains. The F12 was refreshingly raw and visceral, a showcase for how far Ferrari could push the limits of a high-revving naturally aspirated V-12 engine.

Of course, there was more to come. The F12tdf, named after the Tour de France race which was dominated by Ferrari at the competition’s high point during the 1950s and 1960s. Ferrari envisioned the F12tdf as a track-oriented version of the F12. Power from the 770-hp V-12, while Ferrari scrubbed an unfathomable 220 lbs. from the car’s curb weight. The automaker’s chief test driver flung an F12tdf around the Fiorano test circuit in a mere 1 minute and 21 seconds, two ticks faster than the standard F12 and just a hair off of the LaFerrari.

Road & Track called it “agile and devastatingly fast on a tight Italian b-road,” an allusion to its balance between touring capability and track performance.

The Bianco Avus F12tdf offered here is one of just 799 built and has covered less than 900 miles from new. A heavily optioned example, the exterior features titanium exhaust pipes, red calipers, carbon fiber fog lamp, headlight bucket, and underdoor cover. The car rides on 20-in. forged dark painted wheels featuring carbon fiber hub caps. Rosso Ferrari red leather drapes its interior and contrasts with black Alcantara synthetic suede trim, complemented by a Rosso Ferrari steering wheel with Bianco stitching. Additional bespoke features include carbon fiber large-size racing seats with special equipment central seat stripe and glove compartment stripe in white leather, as well as the Cavallino stitched on the headrests in Bianco. An integrated audio system with Bluetooth, navigation, and satellite radio completes the interior of this stunning Ferrari.
