The Swallow Doretti was produced by the Swallow Side Car Company between 1954 and 1955. It was designed by Frank Rainbow who drew inspiration from the handsome Italian designs of the day. The underpinnings of the car were based largely on the Triumph TR2. The Italian sounding name was thought to assist in the marketing of these new sports car in the United States. In the Doretti’s short production run, only 276 cars were built. It’s estimated that only 140 remain worldwide, making them one of the rarest British roadsters.
This example has been masterfully restored to concours quality standards. The Italian red paintwork complements the tan interior and soft-top perfectly, both of which present in faultless condition. This example was stored for 48 years prior to its total restoration and as a result the bodywork is perfect. It’s powered by a 1,991-cc inline four-cylinder engine. The engine is paired to a four-speed manual gearbox, featuring the optional factory overdrive. Accompanying this Doretti is a history file including original purchase documents, import documents, registration certificates, and historical information on the vehicle including photographs. The Doretti is an incredibly rare marque and this is an excellent opportunity to own a unique piece of British motoring history.
