This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is a rare ‘California Coupe.’ While the majority of 280SLs were two-seater roadsters, a small number were built in the ‘California Coupe’ configuration which featured a fold-down rear bench seat in place of the convertible soft-top, turning the car into a 2+2. The car is described as in original condition, presented in Moss Green, with a matching hardtop and riding on Fuchs alloy wheels. The interior is completed in Bamboo leather with brown carpet, featuring VDO instrumentation and a multi-channel Blaupunkt radio with Hirschmann antenna. The 280SL is powered by a 2,778-cc 180-hp six-cylinder engine featuring Bosch fuel-injection, the engine is paired to an automatic transmission. Power equipment includes steering and brakes.

The 280SL on offer comes with a hardtop storage stand, tool wrap with tools, as well as a spare tire with cover and jack. Documentation with the car includes service records, Mercedes-Benz data card, original owner’s manual and other Mercedes-Benz brochures in the original case. The Mercedes-Benz data card shows this 280SL was well optioned when it left the factory, delivered as a ‘California Coupe’ with tinted glass and windshield, left and right headrests, Becker Europa stereo (since removed) and the addition of a hardtop with garnish moldings.

For the 1970 model year, Mercedes-Benz produced 7,935 examples of the 280SL. This is an excellent opportunity to enter into Mercedes-Benz SL ownership with this rare 280SL ‘California Coupe.’
