The popular Series 62 Convertible presented the 1958 Cadillac in its fullest beauty. In the fresh flair of its dramatic styling to the superb performance of its power-assisted driving controls and incomparable elegance of its interiors, there was positive assurance that this motorcar would be prized and desired for many years to come.

Inspired by the Lockheed P-38 fighter plane, Cadillac’s signature tailfins debuted on the company’s 1948 model line and remained a design hallmark for over 15 years. While the styling of the Series 62 was refined from year to year, it remained a familiar platform until 1959 when Harley Earl’s designs reached unprecedented levels of flamboyance and opulence.

The 1958 Series 62, therefore, is the last of the more subdued Cadillacs. Elegant and stately, its basic design and outfitting were carried over from the previous year, although dual headlamps most readily identified this model year. The grille was also revised and widened to include small, round cleats where the vertical and horizontal bars met. While small chrome fins were added to the fenders, the tailfins were somewhat less pronounced and now bore a Cadillac emblem. Meanwhile, the rear wheel housings were unskirted and accented by five longer wind splits on either side. As before, the 365 cubic inch, 310 horsepower V-8 was mated to a Hydra-Matic automatic transmission with power steering and power brakes offered as standard equipment. Air conditioning, heaters and radios were optional, however. An all-new extended-deck sedan was offered alongside the usual Series 62 sedan, coupe, and convertible variants.

The 1958 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible is finished in white (in 1958, Cadillac offered three different shades) with a black soft-top and complementary red and white interior. The leather interior and top were both replaced five years ago during a cosmetic restoration; the paint and chrome was also attended to at that time. Included in the impressive equipment offerings are chromed Saber-Spoke wheels, whitewall tires, radio with rear speaker, inside adjustment for sideview mirror, spare, jack; power top, windows, seat, steering and brakes.

This will be an uncommon motoring experience, one that should be expected from a Cadillac of this era – it was 1958’s “motordom masterpiece.”
