The Porsche Type 964 is the company’s internal name for the Porsche 911 manufactured and sold between 1989 and 1994. Designed by Benjamin Dimson in 1986, it featured significant styling revisions over previous 911 models, most prominently the more integrated bumpers.
Porsche introduced the Type 964 Turbo model in March, 1990, as the successor to the Type 930 911. Unfortunately, they hadn’t had the essential time needed to develop a turbocharged version of the 3.6-liter M64 engine, and chose to re-use the 3.3-liter engine from the 930.
Porsche released the Type 964 Turbo 3.6 in January, 1993 for their 911 model, now featuring a turbocharged version of the 3.6-liter M64 engine and producing 360-hp. Among the updates for these cars were a tighter, limited-slip differential, bigger brakes with red calipers, a 20-mm lower ride height, Speedline split-rim alloys, updated air conditioning, uprated oil cooler, new camshafts and higher boost pressure.
The associated VIN on this beautiful black with tan example confirms the Type 964 3.6-liter turbo engine, which is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The car is reported as being driven sparingly and being well-cared-for. It has recently experienced a major service, gasket and seal replacement, timing chain housing resealed, recent oil service and passed dealer inspection. This Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 Coupe is nicely outfitted with air conditioning, radio, power windows. Power steering and power four-wheel disc brakes that are ventilated and cross-drilled. Service records are available and the associated Carfax is also stated to be “clean.” The car is recently fully detailed to enhance its original condition.
The 3.6-liter powered Turbo flat six- cylinder engine was produced only for model year 1993/1994, with fewer than 1,500 of them built in total making it one of the rarest and most sought after Porsches produced since the acclaimed 959.
