Introduced for 1969, Chevrolet’s 350 cubic inch V-8 served in basic form as the Corvette’s main powerplant nearly into the 21st century. While GM’s non-proliferation policy of the late 1960s took hold, the number of available engine options dropped drastically. Nonetheless, Zora Arkus-Duntov’s pet project, the high-winding, 370-hp LT1 reached production for 1970, and today, it continues to be revered as one of the finest high performance engines ever created.

GM management stretched 1969 Corvette production by two months to meet demand created during a strike earlier in the year, with the shortened 1970-production schedule resulting in only 17,316 Corvettes built for 1970, the lowest production total of any C3 model year. Of those, 10,668 were the coupe. In particular, the LT1 engine was quite rare, with just 1,287 Corvettes so equipped at an upcharge of $447.60 for the desirable performance option. Externally, the LT1 Corvette was easily identified with its big-block style bulged hood with unique striping and “LT1” outline decals.

This restored LT1-powered 1970 Corvette coupe is finished in Donnybrooke Green exterior, complemented by a green interior. It is well equipped with such options as an AM/FM radio, power windows and N37 tilt and telescopic steering wheel. Tinted glass was now standard, as were four-wheel disc brakes (as they have been since1965). The removable T-tops were also standard for the coupe version, as well as the removable rear window glass that greatly opened the cockpit for the feel of a true open car.

This Corvette is accompanied by its original tank sheet, and it has received acclaimed NCRS Top Flight Awards in 2010, 2011 and 2013. Further, it received an NCRRS Performance Verification Award in 2010, Bloomington Gold, gold certified in 2011 and a Duntov Mark of Excellence Award in 2013.
