A joint venture between Porsche and Volkswagen, the 914 was intended to replace the four-cylinder 912, but never quite hit the mark with Porsche enthusiasts, but still remains popular and recognizable to many of its generation. A mid-engine design, it was available with either a VW 1,679-cc four-cylinder or a Porsche two-liter six-cylinder engine. It also has a sporty five-speed manual transmission.
This very nice four-cylinder 914/4 is painted in vibrantly-toned orange, with black interior that features orange accents. The Porsche is reported to have been used sparingly; along with the fun of driving with the open targa top removed, the clean cockpit features a rollbar, Sparco racing seats, onboard fire extinguisher, VDO instrumentation, dual rearview mirrors and color-keyed wheels. Although targeted at a select group when new, the 914 has always had a reputation for fun. This one is no exception.
