The Chrysler Laser was publicized as the Chrysler brand's first sports car. The Laser was a near copy of the Dodge Daytona, but came only in the upmarket trim version. It was produced from 1984 to 1986. The Laser highlighted European luxury, and was envisioned to be an "executive personal luxury coupe." The Laser was sleek, low-slung, and aerodynamic, with a drag coefficient of only .35. The car has a large rear hatchback, with a rear decklid spoiler. The 1984 Laser was available in two trim line versions; standard and XE. In mid-1985, the XT trim level had been added as the top-of-the-line version. The turbo version of the Laser could be recognized by its use of black hood louvers. The 2.2-liter Turbo I engine was available as standard equipment in the XE and XT, plus it was an option available on the standard model. This particular car is fitted with the automatic transmission.

Among the many prominent features on the Chrysler Laser XE were a dashboard with digital speedometer display, tachometer, odometer, temperature, oil pressure, voltage and fuel gauge. An electronic monitoring system is situated near the top of the center console; this monitoring system was integrated to check 22 separate functions on the XE; such as low fuel, an extinguished taillight, or possibly an open door. After electronic detection of the apparent situation; the system would give a digital readout of the condition, along with an audio message made by a synthesized voice. An electronic navigator would give information on mileage, miles traveled, distance to destination and elapsed driving time. Now all quite commonplace technology being explored 30-plus years ago. Out of the reported 50,866 Laser examples being produced in 1985; 18,193 are reported to be made with the XE trim.

This Black XE has a silver-toned interior and been little used over the last 31 years, the less than 16,000 miles are actual. Among the styling cues on this car are the factory “Swiss cheese” cast aluminum wheels and a Direct Connections body kit.
