The 4-4-2 was born out of the competition between Pontiac Division and Oldsmobile. It began as a hurried response to the Pontiac Tempest GTO, which had proven to be an unanticipated success midway through the 1964 model year. For 1967, the 4-4-2's styling and base 400 cubic inch engine remained essentially the same; strong and powerful. Production of Oldsmobiles with the 4-4-2 performance package totaled a reported 24,829 cars among three different body styles. While the breakdown doesn’t specify 4-4-2 models only – there were a total of 4,344 Cutlass convertibles built in 1967. Of these, 567 were six-cylinder cars, while the V-8 powered machines totaled 3,777. With confidence, we can predict those with the 4-4-2 performance package were far fewer. This car was built in the Fremont, California facility in the second week of June, 1967.
Looking ready for action in Saffron with a black power-operated top and black bucket seat interior, this restored 4-4-2 retains its 400-cid, 325 horsepower V-8 engine and a console-shift Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission. Having been completed approximately 10-years ago, it also has power steering, power brakes, AM radio, model-specific emblems, tilt steering wheel, upper body accent stripe and Super Stock wheels with BFGoodrich Silvertown redline tires. Each area of the car is nicely detailed and is quite presentable.
