By the late 1960s, Fiat became the largest car maker in Europe and a daunting automotive realm. Its products spanned from micro cars to large luxury saloons. It even offered as many as four lines of sports cars: 850 Spider, 124 Spider / Coupe, 2300 Coupe / 130 Coupe and Dino Spider / Coupe. Among this impressive lineup, the 124 duo was the biggest sellers, with close to 500,000 units sold from 1966-1985.

The 124 Spider and Coupe were born from the platform of 124 Sedan, but their looks are quite different. The Spider was penned by Pininfarina and it was thought to be an attractive and affordable convertible platform that would appeal to many enthusiasts.

The highlight of the car was the twin-cam engine designed by ex-Ferrari engine expert Aurelio Lampredi. It was Fiat's first mass production twin-cam four-cylinder engine and one of the firsts in the world (the others were Alfa Romeo's and Ford's twin-cam). Thanks to this twin-cam engine, the 124 was deemed fast in period. Within its price range, there was nothing to readily threaten the Fiats. The 124 also handles quite well. It is capable to handle and easy to drive. Driver’s controls that include steering, clutch, throttle and brake pedal – are lightweight and provide excellent feedback. The five-speed gearbox is efficient to shift and the four-wheel disc brakes stop the car quickly. The ride is comfortable while body control is predictable. Moreover, the Fiat 124 Spider is just plain fun to drive and to be a passenger in.

The blue with black Fiat 124 Spider being offered has had one sympathetic owner from new and has its original paint which is well-preserved. It was ordered from the dealer with "Tuff-Kote" undercoating for an additional $80.00. Fiat's that weren't undercoated were often known to rust. This is a beautiful, rust free example to this day. The black vinyl interior is in excellent condition and original, as is the carpet. The car also has its original spare, jack and lug wrench. From the factory, these cars had a high-quality cabin presentation and feature a wood dashboard and complete instrumentation. Dunlop radial tires are part of this solid package, as are bumper guards and an AM/FM radio.
