Hiram Hillegass started constructing racecars in 1919 while working at Mack in Allentown, Pennsylvania. When he passed away in 1960 at the age of 65, he was known as one of the leading builders of single seat racecars in the United States; this status was confirmed by his election to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1997.

This beautifully maintained 1950 Hilegass sprint car is a certified AACA Historic Racer. The original body is fabricated from aluminum and reported as “perfect.” The car runs with a blueprinted Ford flathead race engine and a Halibrand rear end with extra gears included. Dayton wire wheels have knock-off hubs plus the rollbar, suspension components, dual exhaust pipes, nerf bars and steering arm are all plated.

The Hillegass is complete with race records from the 1950s and ‘60s when the car was driven by top drivers of the period. There are also many early photos that accompany the car. It is currently raced in historic events at Lime Rock, Connecticut and Louden, New Hampshire.
