The Maserati Merak was introduced in 1972, in essence a junior version of the Maserati Bora. It substituted an all-new Maserati designed quad-cam V-6 engine for the Bora's larger V-8, resulting not only in a lower cost, but room for a small backseat and improved handling due to lower weight and a better front/rear weight distribution. A five-speed manual gearbox is utilized, as are ventilated four-wheel disc brakes. Giugiaro and his Ital Design group were entrusted with penning the mid-engine design. The name Merak did not refer to a wind, as was common in this period, but rather to a star from the Great Bear constellation.
This example is finished in silver with black leather interior and wool carpets. It is equipped with a period-correct radio, seatbelts, power windows and full instrumentation. The factory alloy wheels are fitted with Michelin XWX tires and the spare still has the original rubber mounted to the rim.
