The automotive landscape changed forever when Honda launched its upscale Acura brand in the U.S. for the 1986 model year. A few years later Acura shocked the world of exotic cars with the mid-engined NSX. First shown in Chicago during the 1989 auto show, the NSX debuted in mid-1990 as a 1991 model.

Before 1990, mid-engined, four-cam supercars almost always came from Italy. Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Maserati had a history of high-performance sports cars with engines located behind the driver for ideal weight distribution. One thing was certain – exotic supercars did not come from Japan, until the NSX. The sleek aluminum body had a drag coefficient of 0.32. Suspension of the monocoque body-chassis unit was fully independent. Capable of 0–60 in less than 6.0 seconds, the NSX could devour a quarter mile in less than 14 seconds. And it had the excellent build quality and proven reliability that Acura is renowned for.

The example presented here, elegantly finished in Berlina Black with matching black leather interior and dealer-ordered fitted luggage from Italy, has been fastidiously maintained by its original owner since new. Kept as a collector car since day one, it has been carefully driven just a little over 6,000 miles since delivery and is in exceptional un-restored original condition. This is an early production car, serial no. 222. Interestingly, the same owner of this NSX also purchased a bookend, as-new 2017 NSX, serial no. 223, in contrasting Casino White Pearl, which is also being offered here for sale.

Japanese cars have been garnering the attention of more collectors in recent years, even being recognized at Pebble Beach with the first-ever annual Japanese Automotive Invitational, where an NSX was on display with other hand-selected Japanese cars of historical importance. This car represents a unique opportunity to acquire one of the most pristine, low-mileage, first-year Acura NSX cars anywhere.
