Dan Gurney and his All-American Racing group have earned a position of respect throughout the world of international motorsport. From Ferrari sports cars in California to being part of the Ferrari Formula One team, Dan Gurney was recognized as one of the world’s best drivers. He could race and win at every level; Formula One, Le Mans sports prototypes, Indy Cars, NASCAR and various formula between.

Gurney brought Porsche it’s only victory in F1 and would also campaign BRM and Brabham F1 cars, giving Porsche and Brabham their first victories in F1. Perhaps inspired by three-time World Champion, Jack Brabham, forming his own team and having the technical knowhow (also seen with Bruce McLaren at this time), Gurney (with Goodyear backing) became a manufacturer of his own racecars at the highest levels of the sport and famously won in an Eagle chassis at the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix; the first for an American car and American driver since Jimmy Murphy won the 1921 French GP in a Duesenberg. The feat is yet to be repeated. Eagles also have a fine history at the Indianapolis 500, winning at the Speedway as a car builder in 1968 and 1973 and as the owner/builder in 1975 with Bobby Unser at the wheel.

With this AAR history in mind; we are pleased to offer this Eagle 85GC Indy Car. The car is reported to have been successfully raced by Ed Pimm at the 1985 Indianapolis 500 to 9th and the balance of the CART series with six top ten finishes that includes 9th at the Indy 500, 5th at the Michigan 500 and a best of 3rd at the Michigan 200. The other results listed includes Long Beach P12; Milwaukee P21; Portland P19; Elkhart Lake P11; Pocono 500 P20; Mid Ohio P9; Sanair, Canada P8; Laguna Seca P14; Phoenix P9 and Miami P12.

The Eagle is offered with a Hewland DGV gearbox and a Cosworth block that is a stressed member, but not a running engine. The car is reported to have been in storage since it was campaigned during the 1985 season and is very original. Along with the correct livery, this “roller” also has its Momo steering wheel, dash instruments, seatbelts, half-shafts, shift linkage, cockpit swaybar adjusters, alloy wheels, Goodyear Eagle racing slicks, plus the brake rotors and calipers. The Eagle also has the famous Agajanian name on the rear wing sideplates and wears the famous number 98. Cary Agajanian was an ownership partner with Michael Andretti, Bryan Herta and Mike Curb on the 2016 Indianapolis 500 winning car of Alexander Rossi. The mid-‘80s history of Indy Car is well represented with this car and provides a great opportunity to acquire an AAR Gurney Eagle at a very fair level of investment.
