For 1958, Corvette received updates to the body and interior, which included a longer front end with quad-headlamps, bumper-exiting exhaust tips, exterior brightwork, a new steering wheel, a passenger grab-bar, seatbelts and dashboard with all gauges mounted directly in front of the driver; including a 160-mph speedometer. Design exclusives to the 1958 model were hood louvers and twin trunk spars. Enthusiast magazines of the period were quite positive about the mechanical changes and suitably impressed with the cars performance and handling, all at a reasonable price.
Chevrolet produced 9,168 Corvettes in 1958 but only 190 were originally finished in Panama Yellow with white cove panels. The example presented here is one of those 190 cars. During the 1958 production year, reports state that around 11-percent of the total productions cars were fitted with fuel-injection. Cars that have this special performance feature can sprint to 60-mph in just under 7 seconds.
The Corvette offered here has benefitted from a complete restoration that was finished in 2016. It is finished in the very rarely seen paint scheme of Panama Yellow with white coves. Under the hood is a fuel-injected 290-hp V-8 engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a 3.70:1 ratio posi-traction rear differential. The interior features new Al Knoch upholstery and a Wonderbar AM radio. The car does feature a color matching hardtop, but no soft top.
