For decades, the country that invented the musclecar has blazed a trail by building hulking engines that churn staggering horsepower. Though the bigger-is-better movement halted during the 1970s oil crunch, and again most recently when hybrid powertrains became de rigueur in Formula 1 racers and high-dollar hypercars.
Fiat Chrysler Automobile may have been fortunate when the launch of its audacious 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat coincided with unexpectedly low fuel prices. Not only did this brawny platform suddenly become socially acceptable, its retro styling and locomotive-like power offers an alluring alternative to the self-righteous flavor of the eco cars.
To say the Hellcat is built for speed is an understatement of epic proportions. The Hellcat packs a massive supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that generates a scorching 707 horsepower and 650- lb/ft of torque; it also has a four-speed manual transmission. The Challenger is, in fact, the most potent American production car on the market capable of reaching a supercar-like 204-mph, trailing just behind such exotica as the V-12-powered Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, which produces 730 horsepower.
This is virtually a brand new car that has approximately three miles and is “still in the wrapper.” The Tor Red example has all dealer packaging is still installed; these elements include plastic on seats, chin spoiler protectors, steering wheel wrap and plastic on carpets. It is reported to be quite difficult to get a Hellcat with this low mileage, as all dealers are technically required to test each one for 10 mile prior to sale. The owner states he has a good relationship with one of the top Dodge dealers in the country, and was only able to secure this three mile Hellcat as part of a package deal with multiple additional cars.
The invoice remains in the window, and the Hellcat is generously equipped with four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, black factory alloy wheels, red brake calipers, air conditioning, 200-mph speedometer, 8.4-inch touchscreen interface radio with navigation and performance shift indicator, premium leather SRT bucket seats in a Black and Sepia color combination and Pirelli Summer Performance tires to mention but a few of its exciting provisions.
