The landmark E-Type Jaguar set the motoring world on edge with its revelation in 1961. Derived from the Le Mans-winning D-Type, the E-Type was an instant success. It delivered beauty and performance at a fraction of the price of its hand-built rivals, establishing the E-Type as an icon of the 1960s. Jaguar continuously improved the safety and drivability of their thoroughbred throughout the decade. In 1968, the Series II arrived as the fully updated realization of Malcolm Sayers’ original vision. For many, the flowing curves of the coupe represent the pinnacle of sports car design.
The Series II is the perfect choice for a truly useable classic. These cars offer better seating and improved safety features like headrests, upgraded lighting, shoulder harnesses and a collapsible steering column. Gone are the cooling issues of the early cars in favor of a larger air intake and high-capacity water pump. Larger Girling disc brakes delivered superior stopping power. These improvements, combined with the sympathetic upgrades, made this E-Type very compatible with modern traffic and ready to enjoy all day without taking a toll on the driver and passenger.
Top-condition coupes are enjoying tremendous popularity and this beautiful example checks the right boxes. This car includes the original jack, toolkit, knock-off wheel hammer and still retains its original rare and highly desirable Phillips AM/FM/shortwave radio. Subtle performance improvements include a five-speed transmission, alloy radiator, custom exhaust headers and a smaller-diameter Moto-Lita steering wheel. The original steering wheel is included, as well as a DVD detailing its restoration by marque experts, a large book of receipts covering previous work and a car cover.
This beautiful E-Type stands today in peak driver condition having benefited from documented, limited long-term ownership. Major work includes top and bottom end engine components, new clutch and flywheel, as well as U-joints and prop shaft. Recent service fitted new Vredestein tires, anti-roll bar drop link bushes and vacuum hoses. The car received new frame bolts and lower ball joint boots and was further enhanced by refurbishment of the rear suspension with new emergency brake pads, A-arm mounts and IRS mounts. With limited miles since its upgrades, a fresh four wheel alignment ensures this E-Type is ready for the road.
