Virtually every type of car was raced at Bonneville during the mid-1950s, including then-new Ford Thunderbirds such as this example. Beginning with a stock 1956 Thunderbird factory equipped with a 312 cubic inch V-8 and automatic transmission, the builder added a rollbar, McCulloch supercharger, a Paxton instrument cluster and a magneto with twin coil ignition. In 1959, Lloyd Marschall drove this car at Bonneville to an average speed of 156.84 miles per hour. Unusual for a Bonneville car raced during the period, this Thunderbird remains in original, unrestored condition.
