The Dormobile is a trade name of a UK company called Martin Walter. They started by making harnesses, horse-drawn carriages and eventually became a coach builder. The company patented a seat that would fold back into a bed, called a dormatic seat. This innovation led them to a new market, campers. They found that by making the roof hinge on a single side, it created more room inside for beds. The side-hinged folding roof is the main visual difference that sets it apart from other campers that have pop-up roofs. Camper tops where added to many vehicle popular makes: Ford, GM and Chrysler. Even with many other competitors, the favorite and most popular over the years has been the Volkswagen.

This particular camper is reported to be a rare, because the top was built in England. This beautiful first generation VW microbus has recently had a frame-off restoration that was finished approximately two years ago. The engine is said to be a 1,585-cc horizontally-opposed four-cylinder, with a four-speed manual transmission. It is painted in a two-tone white and velvet green and has a fold-out windshield and plenty of vent windows to keep the interior cool. The wheels are painted in white with accenting chrome center caps. The front seat is finished in a gray fabric. The interior is well laid out with naturally finished cabinetry; plus a sink, fridge and a bed are built into the van providing for a comfortable weekend adventure.
