Chevrolet introduced the Bel Air in 1950, initially as a trim option on the deluxe series. In 1953, the Bel Air became its own model, taking the spot as the top-of-the-line offering from Chevrolet. For 1954 the Bel Air was available in five body styles with the six-cylinder being the only engine option. Nineteen fifty-four marked the final year of the first generation of Bel Air production.

This 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe is presented in beautiful two-tone Turquoise and India Ivory combination, which is reported as original paint. This matches up with the car’s data tag which shows paint code 563; this number is listed on the original paint chart as the two-tone code for this gorgeous color presentation. The paint is accented by brightwork featuring a Bel Air sweepspear molding over the rear fenders as well as the Chevrolet bird hood ornament of the time period. The car rides on whitewall tires with factory full disc wheel covers and color-keyed steel wheels. Other exterior features include driver’s sideview mirror and fender skirts. This Bel Air Sport Coupe is powered by a 235-cid Blue Flame inline six-cylinder engine which is paired to a Powerglide automatic transmission. The Bel Air is offered with the original tools and jack. Added features on the car include power steering, traffic light viewer and Autronic-Eye headlight dimmer.

In 1954 Chevrolet produced 66,378 Bel Air Sport Coupes. The Bel Air Sport Coupe was regarded as a beautiful and economical way to “go places and see things.” It was, in period, America’s most popular hardtop coupe and has maintained this respect and desirability since.
