In the early 1990s, Chrysler was looking to add an additional car to its model lineup as a follow-up to its highly successful Dodge Viper. The answer came in the form of a concept car which featured 1930s hot rod styling and modern engineering, the Prowler. Production of the Prowler began in 1997, with 457 examples produced, 343 of which were sold in the United States. For the initial 1997 model year, the Prowler was only offered in Prowler Purple Metallic.

This 1997 Plymouth Prowler is presented in the aforementioned factory tone and features great looking retro-styling, essentially offering customers a factory hot rod for the modern age. The car is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine which is paired to an automatic transmission. Power options on the car include power convertible top, windows, steering and four-wheel disc brakes. The interior is completed in gray, featuring leather bucket seats separated by a center console. Full instrumentation can be found center-mounted on the dashboard, the entirety of which is surrounded by a purple faceplate. Other interior features include air conditioning and radio with a CD player. Distinctive Prowler-only alloy wheels are staggered in size, as with a proper hot rod, and have a large footprint. This Prowler is accompanied by a matching (in style, wheels and color) trailer that can greatly increase storage for more travelling convenience, be it long term or a fun-packed day trip.
