Enthusiasts once again can thank homologation rules for Porsche offering their successful 911 Turbo with the type 930 engine to the public. In 1975, Porsche was forced to build 400 road-going examples of their 911 Turbo in order to participate in its racing category. Porsche unveiled the production version of the 911 Turbo at the Paris Auto Show in 1974. Porsche’s new top-of-the-line 911 Turbo was offered in Europe in 1975, and later exported to the United States in 1976. The excellence of their engineering exercise allowed the cars to quickly gain a cult-type following, which led Porsche to continue building the 911 Turbo past the homologation requirements.

The first iteration of the 911 Turbo featured a 3.0-liter engine. The car looked the part of a road going racecar with larger wheels, wider tires, flared fenders and a large rear spoiler commonly referred to as the “whale tail.” The features were all functional, and along with the upgraded suspension and larger four-wheel disc brakes, helped the car handle its increased power.

In 1978, the 911 Turbo engine increased in size to 3.3-liters and an intercooler was added which allowed the car to achieve a 300-hp rating in European spec. Once again the brakes were upgraded and the “whale tail” was redesigned to make room for the intercooler in the engine bay.

This 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo is presented in a metallic black and features a sunroof. The car has been restored with new paint and interior. The car is powered by a 3.3-liter, turbocharged 265-hp flat six-cylinder Type 930 engine. The engine is paired to a four-speed manual transmission. Power options on the car include power windows and brakes. The interior is executed in a cork color with sport seats and features air conditioning and an AM/FM radio.
