The Jaguar XJ6 was the long awaited replacement for both the Mark X and S-Type Saloons of the 1960s. The Mark X had been criticized for being too large, and the S-Type had roots that went back to the 1950s with the Mk1 saloon. The XJ was finally the sedan that Sir William Lyons had envisioned all along. Perfectly sized between the two cars, and had an all-new body that utilized the legendary XK engine in either 2.8- or 4.2-liter form. Independent rear suspension was essentially the same design that first appeared on the Mark X, but adapted for the new, more elegant body. The XJ debuted in 1968 and was produced in three different series through 1992 with a variety of engine options ranging from the destroked 2.8 all the way up to a 5.3-liter V-12. The Series III appeared in 1979 with new impact bumpers to satisfy America regulations. The rest of the body was subtly restyled with input from the legendary design firm Pininfarina. The Series III XJ6 proved very popular for Jaguar and was the mainstay for the company through the late 1980s.

Very good, clean Series III XJs are very difficult to find as they often suffered from neglect and were “run into the ground.” But this is example comes from a large and eclectic car collection where it has been exceptionally well-maintained since new. It shows to be sparingly utilized and is in very good original condition inside and out. Color matched bumpers and polished late model XJS wheels have been fitted which add a unique modern touch. The dark blue paint is excellent, with just a few blemishes here and there, nothing out of the ordinary for an original car such as this. The body is solid, rust-free and straight. The original beige leather interior is clean and well-kept, with nice wood trim and no rips or tears. All of the accessories work perfectly, and even the original Jaguar radio is present. This is a very nice Jaguar that is totally usable on a daily basis. It would make an ideal choice for someone who enjoys the feeling of a classic in a reliable package that can keep up with modern traffic. It is simply a solid, well-kept classic that can be retained as a weekend toy or used every day without worry.
