The Ford 300 was listed in Ford literature of the period as being the base trim level car below the Galaxie. This 300 drag car is based on the two-door Club Sedan platform and is reported as being a “pre-lightweight purpose-built drag racing car.” The Ford 300 models are said to be rare; this one is driven by the factory R-Code 427-cid, 425 horsepower big-block V-8 with dual carburetors. The transmission is a floor-shift manual and the rear end has a factory 4.11:1 axle ratio. There are also factory traction bars.
This exhilarating Ford is believed to have last raced in the early 1970s. It has been owned by a collector since that era and has been rarely used since. The car is reported as “essentially as last raced, except for new period side loader shifter and knob. Also there is new period Vintique wheels as well as new period pie crust drag slicks. It is believed that only 47 of these Ford 300 “notchback” drag cars were built.
