The 2007 Ford Shelby GT 500 was introduced as the successor to the SVT Cobra. It was the high performance version of the then current generation Mustang, and was recognized at that time as the most powerful production Mustang ever built.

Forty years after the debut of the original GT 500, Ford again teamed up the renowned Carroll Shelby to create the 2007 Ford Shelby GT 500. With the telltale Cobra emblem the only bit of brightwork on its blacked-out grille and a 500 horsepower, supercharged V-8 under the hood, allowing it to be the most powerful road-going, factory-produced Mustang at that point in time.

The car came from Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) utilizing a small-block, 5.4-liter V-8 that was basically a detuned version of the engine from the Ford GT supercar; only on the GT 500, supplier and cost concerns made necessary the use of a wet-sump oil system (instead of dry-sump), a cast-iron block (instead of aluminum) and a "Roots-type" supercharger with 9-psi of boost (instead of an Eaton "screw-type" with 13.5-psi). With many components carried over, it still resulted in a 500-hp, 480-lb/ft and 0- to 60-mph in approximately 4.5 seconds. A Tremec six-speed manual gearbox routes all that through a 3.31:1 limited-slip rear axle.

As spectacular as the car was in its original guise; the example that is being offered has been set apart even further with over $48,000 invested in additional performance upgrades. The 5.4 V-8 now produces an amazing 980 horsepower when run on C16 fuel. When running on pump gasoline, the figure is still a very impressive 880-hp.

Also garnering attention is the highly uncommon Alloy Metallic paint that this car is presented in. It is reported to be one 13 similar examples that featured Satin Silver stripes over a black with red leather interior. The car comes with many areas of modification that includes a JLT carbon fiber radiator cover, sequential turn signals, Steeda Tri-Axe shifter, Ford Racing shifter handle, powercoated special rollbar with bolt-on door rails, five-point G-Force Pro Series racing harnesses, AutoMeter A-pillar gauges, AutoMeter digital tach and shift-light, adjustable coilover shocks, anti-rollbar, three-inch chromoly driveshaft, dual-disc clutch, 31-spline Moser axles, stainless steel braided brake lines, Jeg’s line-lock, Custom True forged retro drag pack wheels, Thump Racing billet tensioner, 72-lb injectors, custom ported lower intake manifold, dual five gallon trunk-mounted ice tanks and much more. The Shelby has been well-cared-for and has approximately 23,000 actual miles and is also equipped with standard equipment that includes a domed hood with functional heat extractors, a front air splitter and a ducktail-style rear spoiler. Inside, you'll find air conditioning, leather-upholstered sport bucket seats with Cobra logos, six-way power adjustments for the driver, optional Shaker 1000 stereo (only factory option available), cruise control and full power accessories like windows, door locks, steering and brakes. A Shelby car cover, original window sticker, two sets of keys and all of the original manuals (sealed in plastic) accompany the Shelby.

The GT 500 proved to be an agile and strong performer, whether on a racetrack or a remote two-lane road as a stock performer, imagine the possibilities with this enhanced version.
