Plymouth introduced the B-body Road Runner in 1968 stripped of all the frills of its brother, the top-of-the-line GTX. The concept of a low-price, freshly-styled car with a powerful engine capable of running the quarter-mile at 100-mph was brilliant marketing aimed squarely at younger buyers looking for a performance bargain. The Road Runner was quickly embraced as a clean, unfrilled performance car by this group.

Owing to the success of the 1968 Road Runner, Plymouth decided to increase the choices for 1969. A convertible was added to the existing hardtop and pillared coupe body styles and bucket seats were added as options. The Two-Door Hardtop had rear windows that rolled up and down with 48,549 produced, while the Convertible saw only 2,218 examples built in the 1969 model year. With a base price of $2,945, this is one of 38,746 two-door coupes built in 1969 and is identifiable by having fixed rear windows.

One unique and lasting impression to the Road Runner’s likable musclecar image was the iconic Warner Brothers cartoon bird decals and the unique “beep-beep” horn. Wile E. Coyote could not resist the chase when he heard the Road Runner’s signature call, and those that initiated pursuit of the Plymouth version soon fell by the wayside - much like their cartoon counterpart, but without the trip over a cliff or ending up under a boulder.

For 1969, the Road Runner decals were now in color. Standard was a 383-cid, 335-hp V-8, heavy-duty suspension, GTX-like subtle hood bulges and a spartan, all-business interior. This well-presented example utilizes the standard 383 unit with an automatic transmission. Joining the existing 383- and 426-cid engines were a choice of 440-cid V-8s, a four-barrel version rated at 375-hp, and a triple-two barrel 440-cid V-8 known as the "440 + 6".

Finished in Code F3 Frost Green (per Data Tag), this Plymouth has been handsomely restored and also displays a green and gray two-tone vinyl interior with a bench seat and AM radio. Additional features include power steering, factory road wheels, black hood stripes and BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
