Ferrari saved its finest engineering and performance magic toward the end of the production run of the company's seductively curvaceous, mid-engined 458. The 458 Speciale was, quite simply, the Italian automaker's fastest, naturally aspirated V-8-powered model of all time. Stunning driving dynamics and highly polished controls made the car equally at home on the race track or public roads.

The key to the allure of the Speciale is a suite of modifications, many of them inspired and, in some instances, co-developed alongside the LaFerrari supercar. A key component of the 458 Speciale's amazing agility is side-slip control (SSC). This system calculates the car's slip angle and makes near-instantaneous adjustments to match the driver's inputs. The system works in tandem with Ferrari's electronically controlled rear differential (E-Diff) and traction control (F1-Trac), with the result being superb reflexes without sacrificing ride comfort and everyday usability.

At the heart of the Speciale is a 4.5-liter V-8 that develops 597 hp at 9,000 rpm, along with 398 foot-pounds of torque at 6,000 rpm. This represents a 35-hp improvement over the standard 458. Credit goes to the car's eye-watering 14.0:1 compression ratio, along with a raft of engine mods that include everything from new pistons and updated combustion chambers to revised intake runners and carbon-fiber airbox and manifold. Ferrari left no stone unturned when eking every ounce of power from this motor.

Added to this boost in engine output is the fact that the Speciale is 200 lbs. lighter than the standard 458 model. With a top speed of 202 mph and 0-60 sprint of 3.0 seconds - not to mention telepathic steering responses - this car stands at the very pinnacle of what is capable in a road-going Ferrari.

This one-owner example offers a classic twist on Ferrari's mid-engined masterpiece, care of the special-order Blu Pozzi color scheme that pays homage to the blue-and-white livery popularized by Luigi Chinetti's NART. The Speciale also features Grey Silverstone brake calipers and traditional Scuderia Ferrari fender shields. Inside, the driver is greeted by optional carbon fiber racing seats, trimmed in Alcantara Cuoio with tasteful blue inserts and white top stitching. Front and center in the gauge cluster, staring directly at the driver, is a large yellow tachometer that winds its way upwards to a heart-pounding 10,000 rpm. With its carbon-fiber construction and bevy of suspension and engine controls, the lightweight steering wheel could have come straight from a modern F1 racing machine. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission can be controlled via a pair of carbon-fiber shift paddles, and shift indicator lights are neatly incorporated into the top of the steering wheel itself. Additional options include Ferrari telemetry, radio-navigation system, integrated audio system, as well as a fire extinguisher. The car's carbon-fiber rear diffuser, a $10,000 option, helps pin this Ferrari to the pavement when blasting around tight corners and bends in the road.

As if all the style and performance wasn't reason enough to make this car the centerpiece of any collection, this example has been driven only 620 miles and also comes with Ferrari's seven-year service maintenance program which can be transferred to the car's new owner. Included are also the original books and accessories, as well as a car cover and battery tender for safe keeping.
