Two years after the unveiling of the Aston Martin Virage Volante, the company pushed the envelope one step further by offering its customers the option of a 6.3-liter engine, available for both the Virage coupe and Volante. The first customers found themselves sending their brand-new cars to Aston Martin Works Service to have new, wider bodywork fitted; this included enlarged wheel arches, bigger air dam, and revised sill covers. Later, the factory itself would produce the wider bodies during production, which offered customers a chance to retain their original 5.3-liter engine but modify the body of their Virage to appear as the 6.3.
One of those 6.3 Cosmetic Virage Volantes, as they were later termed, is offered here - perhaps the only one sold to North America. A letter from Aston Martin confirms March 1993 as the month and year of manufacture, and the CARFAX report on file shows that chassis 60047 was subsequently titled in Florida in March 1993. Still equipped with its original engine, the report also confirms the Volante's exceptionally low mileage; the vehicle has spent the last several years in a private collection, cared for by Aston Martin experts.
Presented in original colours of Winchester Blue paint over blue leather, with a dark blue soft fabric hood, this Virage Volante 'Wide Body' is certainly one of the lowest-mileage examples of its kind to be offered.
