Porsche introduced the luxurious and outrageously fast 911 Turbo Carrera to the U.S. for its 1975 model year and took the enthusiast world by storm. Its huge fender flares, wide alloy wheels, race car-like "Whale-tail" spoiler, and brilliant performance set a new benchmark for sports cars. Turbos have topped the list of every Porschephile's want list ever since.

Offered is one of the most desirable Porsche Turbos. For 1989, Porsche renamed the Turbo with Option M505 the "930 S" and raised the base list price by $29,555 to $100,530. The 1989 model was the first offered with the much-improved G50/50 five-speed transmission, an improved and stronger gearbox. Gear ratios had been altered to provide better acceleration and drivability. There was a new hydraulic clutch borrowed from the Carrera, and the center of the rear torsion bar tube was modified to accept the new gearbox and clutch. To improve handling, the rear torsion bars increased to 27 mm, while the rear swaybar was reduced to 18 mm, and Bilstein gas-filled shocks and struts were employed.

Delivered from the factory bearing a February 1989 production date, this is said to be one of just 60 built with the "Slant Nose" (or Flat-nose) option, which carried an additional charge of nearly $30,000. Porsche's sales material stated that this design "was inspired by the 1979 Le Mans-winning 935 race car." The sales guide quoted auto journalist Brock Yates: "One of the zoomiest, most distinctive shapes in automobile history."

Finished in traditional Guards Red with a tan leather interior, it was ordered with many standard and additional options, including an electric sunroof, air conditioning, 40-percent limited-slip differential, Sport leather steering wheel with raised hub ($67), a Blaupunkt stereo cassette player with additional rear shelf speakers, a shorter shift lever of the sort used in the 911 SC/RS (also $67), and electrically adjustable seats in "supple leather" ($356) with additional driver's side lumbar support ($537 extra). It is unusual in that being a late-production example (this was built right at the transition period when Porsche was going from the 911 to the 964), it has 964 window seals and 964 cams. The centers of the Fuchs alloy wheels have been painted to match the body.

This handsome Turbo 3.3 coupe was purchased by the current owner, a leading American collector, in late 2014. Its odometer shows an indicated 28,700 miles, which is believed to be correct and original. The consignor states that it was a "no stories" car with a repair history reasonable for its age. It has been well maintained and driven regularly at a private motorsports park to ensure that all its systems function properly.

This 930 S Turbo coupe is supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity, its correct and original space-saver spare wheel and tire, tool kit, owner's manual, and Blaupunkt stereo manual. Porsche was very proud of this design, declaring "the bulging fenders, front spoilers, and 'Whale tail' give the 911 Turbo an exciting and unique expression of form following function."
