552 bhp, 5,998 cc DOHC 48-valve W-12, twin turbochargers, six-speed automatic transmission with manual paddle shift, full-time all-wheel-drive, four-wheel adjustable independent air suspension, and four-wheel, power-ventilated antilock disc brakes. Wheelbase: 108.1 in.

With the introduction of the Continental GT, Bentley’s new owner, Volkswagen, was out to prove that enthusiasts of “The Car from Crewe” had nothing to worry about. The first new Bentley, debuted under their auspices, combined legendary German precision engineering with typically British finishes and handcrafted build quality. It would also offer outstanding performance, capable of accelerating from 0–60 mph in only 4.7 seconds and reaching a top speed a hair under 200 mph. Stump-pulling torque became the Continental GT hallmark. Ventilated disc brakes with ABS and four-wheel air suspension, which the driver could adjust to suit driving speed and conditions, made driving the Continental GT hard a distinct pleasure.

The result was arguably the most exciting Bentley in a generation, bringing the marque back to its performance roots, while also retaining the cosseting comfort levels of later models. It revitalized the Bentley name around the world, and, as such, has taken its place among the company’s long roster of legends.

This car’s original build and delivery information notes it was finished as it is today in Cypress over Saddle with Beluga carpets, veneered door and rear quarter inserts, and five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels. Delivery was made to the original owner by Bentley Atlanta in late December 2004. Orin Smith became the second owner in May 2007 with 11,695 miles recorded; it is remembered by Mrs. Smith as the first automobile purchased for the collection and has remained much-enjoyed ever since. It remains in splendid, well-presented, and very clean, fresh overall condition, with 13,329 miles recorded at the time of cataloguing. In addition to the aforementioned build information from Bentley Motors, it is also accompanied by a selection of service records from Bentley Providence, a clean and satisfying CARFAX report, and the original owner’s manuals and service booklet.

A fine complement to classic and sporting Bentleys in a new owner’s stable, this Continental GT marks the important milestone of the return of the high-performance “Car from Crewe.” It is a splendid automobile and sure to provide endless thrills well into the future.
