The 356 Super 90 was one of Porsche’s fastest and quickest production cars, overshadowed only by the rare and mechanically complex four-cam Carreras. First appearing in late 1959 with the introduction of the T5 body update, Super 90s boasted 15 additional horsepower over the 1600 Super…and were considerably more expensive when new. The Super 90’s Type 616/7 pushrod engine utilized the same big 40-millimeter Solex twin-choke carburetors as the 2.0-liter Carrera engine; Super 90s were also equipped with Koni shocks and a rear camber compensator spring as standard.

According the factory Kardex, a copy of which is supplied, this attractive example in 6204 Light Ivory over Black leatherette with black carpeting left the factory on 17 April 1963 and was delivered to Brumos Motors in Jacksonville, Florida. Its first owner is shown as Mr. Ralph W. Temple, who was assigned to Craig Air Force Base, a pilot training facility near Selma, Alabama. Its ownership history in the following years is unknown, but after a period of years it came into the ownership of Ohio Porsche enthusiast Richard Q. King.

When Mr. King’s estate decided to take this 356 out of long-term storage and consign it to sale, it engaged a professional appraiser who noted that the exterior is in unrestored and largely original condition, with good panel fit and some paint blemishes consistent to a car of this age and mileage (97,335 miles indicated at the time of cataloguing; total mileage is unknown). It is currently fitted with its numbers-matching engine and gearbox per the Kardex.

The battery box shows rust repairs common to this model. The engine compartment is very clean and shows well, while the original interior is in generally fair to good condition. The dashboard contains a factory-spec Blaupunkt AM/FM radio that is not mentioned on the Kardex. Crested hubcaps are fitted to painted steel wheels.

This very attractive and cosmetically original Super 90 appears to be in quite good condition overall, and would be ideal as a weekend driver or as a candidate for restoration.
