Among the most famous modern Mercedes-Benz model series, the W107 version of the classic SL roadster made its debut in 1971; it would remain in production, through multiple iterations, through 1989. Handsomely styled with low, crisp, subtly elegant lines by Paul Bracq, it became something of an icon in its own time, and became known as the automobile that signaled its owner had arrived in the echelon of society. Everyone from celebrities to sports stars the world over enjoyed W107 SLs, and today they remain highly popular and collectible for their combination of durable drivetrains and supple luxury.

Finished in beautiful Silver Blue Metallic over Dark Blue, with a matching hardtop and Dark Blue convertible top, the example shown here is offered today by its original lady owner, who acquired the car new from Nichols Mercedes-Benz of Augusta, Maine. It is equipped with automatic transmission, Becker Mexico AM/FM stereo cassette/radio with automatic antenna, automatic climate control, power windows, full tinted glass including a heated rear window, cruise control, and central locking.

Interestingly the build codes also indicate the car was ordered without the First Aid box, but one remains with the car today, along with the original owner’s manual, warranty book, window sticker, instruction tag for the cruise control, and even the original instruction tape for the cassette player! Even the original Daimler-Benz sticker appears on the windshield, and all of the option and factory build tags are in their expected locations. It is noted that the air conditioning will require service. At the time of cataloging, the car recorded just 25,104 miles, all in the summer months – it has never been exposed to inclement weather and remains dry and solid, and in wonderful condition.

Having been maintained for only one caretaker since new, this remains likely among the best-presented 450 SLs in existence, and is certainly the finest offered today.
