Upon its unveiling at Earls Court in 1948, Jaguar’s XK 120 took the world by storm. It was Jaguar’s first sports car since the SS 100 stopped production in 1940, and the XK 120 was at the cutting edge in terms of both design and performance. The “120” stood for the Jaguar’s top speed, making it the fastest production car in the world at its introduction.
This 1950 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster on offer, chassis no. 670499, is an early steel-bodied U.S.-delivery example, distributed through Max Hoffman of New York. While the first owner was not recorded, a Mr. Odell of Delaware acquired the car sometime in the 1970s. He would own the car until 1987, when it was acquired by current ownership. The car would remain dormant until roughly 2007, when a documented, comprehensive restoration was undertaken, with AACA and JCNA judging standards in mind. Following its completion, the XK 120 would go on to win multiple awards, highlighted by achieving its AACA First Junior followed by its Senior award, both in 2016. The following year, the car achieved two 100-point scores at Jaguar Club Concours events held in Susquehanna Valley and Delaware Valley, achieving a Best in Show at the latter. In 2017 the car ranked 2nd in Class in JCNA National standings, with a 99.943 overall score. Most recently, in 2018 the car achieved the highly coveted AACA First Grand National award.
The Jaguar’s JDHT certificate confirms the car retains its original body, engine, head, and gearbox, and that it was accurately restored to how it left the Jaguar factory many years ago, finished in black with a black top and a biscuit interior with red piping. The car is accompanied by restoration documents, judging sheets, record of parts purchased, service manual, tools, original and reproduction tool pouch, jack, spare, and air pump.
This XK 120 presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored, award-winning example. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection looking to add a quintessential British sports car.
