Chevrolet marked the Corvette’s pacing of the 1978 Indianapolis 500 by building the public 6,200 Limited Edition Indy Pace Car Replicas, featuring special paint and unique decals, replicating the Pace Car’s color scheme, as well as the 220-hp L82 V-8 and full leather interior as standard equipment.
The Pace Car Replica offered here was bought new by its current owners from Devenport Chevrolet of Wolfe City, Texas, on 19 May 1978. It was trucked to the new owner’s home and immediately put into their private collection, where it has resided since, and at the time of cataloguing recorded only five actual miles – making it one of the lowest-mileage Pace Car Replicas known.
Overall the car is, as would be expected, well preserved, although the paint has begun to fail slightly at the tip of the nose; the interior is in excellent condition including the steering wheel, which is still in the factory plastic. The car is accompanied by the original purchase and delivery paperwork, as well as, in fact, the original window sticker, which has never been removed!
